Mini Babybel is proud to have been associated with Red Nose Day since 1999, and has partnered with Comic Relief for 10 years. During that time the Babybel teams have sung, danced, acted, baked cakes, told jokes, and much more in order to raise funds both at a brand level, and as individuals seeking to contribute to the overall fundraising target for Babybel’s Comic Relief effort.
As parents ourselves, we don’t like our children to be bombarded with advertising. For that reason, we don’t communicate at all in primary schools (except for specific educational purposes), nor do we advertise to children under 16 unless the product has met stringent nutritional guidelines (this applies to online advertising, as well as traditional media). We signed up to the UK voluntary code of practice regarding responsible advertising long before it became law, and in 2016 we signed up to the voluntary EU Pledge Initiative, committed to supporting parents in making the right diet and lifestyle choices for their children.
Conserving the world’s resources, always trying to improve
Environmental sustainability is a meaningful term here at Bel. We recognise that everything we do has an impact. There’s still a distance to go before we’re 100% sustainable, but we’re proud of what we’ve achieved so far, for example: Water consumption in our cheese plants has been reduced by almost 1/3rd since 2008, and oil and gas consumption has been cut by over 40% since 2008. We’re continually striving to do better and put great emphasis on sharing best practice too. We believe that is the way we’ll be able to reach even more stringent sustainable development goals, and build truly sustainable brands.
Purchasing responsibly, exerting a positive influence
Our environmental impact extends far beyond how we use our own resources. In partnership with the WWF, Groupe Bel has considered the full-cycle of our environmental responsibility. We’ve identified that around 20% of our cattle feed contains soy and palm-oil derivatives, which has implications for deforestation.
Recycle your Babybel packaging with Terracycle
As the No.1 Cheese snack in the UK, Babybel® is committed to reducing its impact of its packaging on the environment, and we’re on it! We are working hard to achieve our commitment to reach 100% of recyclable-ready and/or biodegradable packaging by 2025. In the meantime, we are partnering with TerraCycle® to allow consumers to recycle any elements of Babybel packaging while supporting local charities and schools with donations at the same time.
